Integrated STEM Curriculum

  • We place an emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math woven into an integrated STEM curriculum that better prepares students for a successful future.
  • We provide a child-centered approach to teaching that engages students through hands-on, problem-based learning activities.
  • We focus on developing student skills in communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.

Partial Spanish Immersion Program

  • Beginning in kindergarten, students have the opportunity to enroll in our tuition-free partial Spanish Immersion Program.
  • Literacy skills are taught in English, other subject areas are taught in Spanish.
  • Students may continue to participate in the partial Spanish Immersion program through sixth grade if they choose.

Wide Variety of Extracurricular and Student Enrichment Activities:

  • Future Problem Solving: creative problem solving competition for 4th through 6th graders
  • Green Team: an environmental student recycling group
  • Student News: live in-house television news broadcast five days a week
  • Photo Club: sharing experiences and communicating through photography
  • Extended Day: offering additional support for students in reading and math
  • Community Education :programs including Track & Field, Mad Science, Check Club, Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Soccer, Watch Me Draw, Painting Buddies, LEGO League, Dance, and many more.

Integration of 21st Century Technology: 

  • A SMART Board interactive white board, a scanner, and a document camera in every classroom to facilitate integration of current educational technology resources into classroom instruction
  • Eight mobile computer carts containing class sets of laptops
  • Mini-lab of iPods
  • Video Production Room where students edit and produce digital video presentations for broadcast on the morning student news program or to post to the school website

Small class sizes: 

  • Average class size is 21.4

School Age Care Program:

  • School Age Care (SAC) is available on-site before and after school for students in Preschool through sixth grade. (fee-based)

Preschool Program: 

  • On-site preschool program available for 4 and 5 year olds. See the Early Childhood Program information on the Forest Lake School District website for more information.

Exceptional Caring and Professional Staff who believe in teaching "the whole child"

  • Staff strives to provide students with an engaging, challenging and dynamic educational program that facilitates the development of intellectual, social, emotional and physical growth in a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • 53 percent of teachers have master’s degrees; more than 40 percent have ten or more years of experience.

Parent & Community Involvement:

  • Active, supportive Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
  • Strong volunteer program with many opportunities for parental involvement

  • Evening events open to the public including Family Engineering night, music programs, etc.
  • Semi-monthly mentor program with selected students/community adults.

  • Annual, district-wide Festival of Cultures, which originated at Lino and is in its fifthteeth year
